Optional Internet Applications:

Important Note: We suggest that you use only 32 bit applications to access the internet under WindowsNT. Many 16 bit applications will launch, but will be unable to resolve hostnames or connect to IP addresses.

Steps: (some are optional)

  1. Verify that RAS is Installed
  2. Verify that the TCP/IP Protocol are Installed
  3. Set up the Dial-up Connection
  4. Dial in
Step 1: Verify that RAS is Installed

Press the button, select Settings..., then Control Panel. Double-click the Network icon. Select the Services tab. Make sure that Remote Access Service is present. If it is, go on to step 2. If it isn't, click the Add… button, select Remote Access Service and click OK. Windows NT will attempt to install the needed drivers, so make sure you have your installation CD handy. You might also need to tell RAS which modem(s) to use to dial out with.

Step 2: Verify that the TCP/IP Protocol is Installed

Next, in the Network control panel, select the Bindings tab. Open Remote Access Server Service, and verify that WINS Client (TCP/IP) is listed under it and enabled. If it is, close your Network control panel and proceed to step 3.

If it isn't listed, select the Protocols tab and click the Add… button. Select the TCP/IP protocol. You may now proceed to step 3.

Step 3: Set up the Dial-up Connection

Open up My Computer from the desktop and double-click the Dial-Up Networking icon. Click the New button.

For the Entry Name, type in "CSD PPP Internet Access" or whatever you want to call the entry that you're about to create to connect you to CSD (the title won't affect the type of connection).

For the phone number, enter 303-583-3000. You should put in *70, (with the comma) if you have Call Waiting. This will disable it for this call only.

Select the Server tab, and make sure that the only Network Protocol that is selected is TCP/IP. Also verify that the Dial-up server type is: PPP: Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet.

Next, select the Security tab, and make sure that "Accept any authentication including clear text" is selected.

Click the OK button.

Step 4: Dial in

Click the Dial button. Put your CSD username and password (not your WindowsNT username) in the appropriate text areas. Username and password are case-sensitive, make sure to type them in correctly. They are generally all lowercase unless you specified otherwise when you signed up. Saving password is optional. You can leave the Domain entry blank.

Press the OK button and your modem should start dialing. After a couple of rings, CSD's terminal server will answer. Windows will send your username and password, and negotiate the link. Once the link is up, you should see a small "Dial-up Networking Monitor" icon on your taskbar. If you want, you can double-click that icon to bring up details about your connection.

That's it! You are now connected and can use your favorite internet applications.
